Programs

Camp New Hope believes that everyone should have the opportunity to experience a vacation in the outdoors. Since 1968 we have been creating recreational opportunities for children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities. Camp New Hope served over 500 individuals during the summers of 2002 and 2003, and that number continues to grow as we add new vacation opportunities to our current programs. The Registration Application with health history forms can be downloaded and printed here using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Program Philosophy
Our goal is to help our participants develop their leisure skills, attitudes and awareness and promote personal and community leisure participation. Participants are encouraged to learn and practice new skills, practice decision making, make new friends and practice socialization skills, enjoy and learn about the outdoors, and have a safe, relaxing and fun vacation.

Who Can Participate
Programs are designed for people who have a developmental disability. This can include mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, brain injury, AD/HD, Down Syndrome and other syndromes. Many participants also have physical disabilities, hearing or vision impairments, and medical conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy. Siblings and friends without disabilities may also participate in our programs.

Staffing
For most programs, Camp New Hope provides at least one staff member or trained volunteer for every two participants. (One-on-one care is also provided as needed.) Our respite and care staff includes food service professionals qualified to prepare special diets and registered nurses who supervise medical care.
